Babyletto Harlow Acrylic 3-in-1 Convertible Crib Review

What is the Babyletto Harlow Acrylic 3-in-1 Convertible Crib

The Babyletto Harlow Acrylic 3-in-1 convertible crib is a rather striking crib with a unique design. It features see-through acrylic slats which allows the crib to appear more open as well as giving you better visibility on your sleeping baby. It’s hard to argue that the clear slats allow this crib to instantly modernize your nursery.

This crib is greenguard gold certified meaning that this crib and other products like it are screened for over 360 volatile organic compounds and for over 10,000 chemicals. This ensures that your baby will be safe from harmful chemicals incase the baby accidentally swallows or bites a piece of it (this is something they can, and routinely, do as they develop).

The low profile design is an excellent crib for short moms coming in at a little over 34.5 inches in height.Babyletto Harlow 3 in 1 convertible cribe review image of bedroom for practical parents in training review

This crib is convertible – this means that it’ll grow with your baby. It can convert into one of three main uses

  1. Crib
  2. Toddler Bed
  3. Day Bed

We’ll break down each type of bed and its use below:

Crib

The crib is the main format for this product. This crib comes with 3 adjustment modes for the mattress (keep in mind that it doesn’t come with a mattress). If you’re also in search of a mattress, we do recommend this mattress. Good mattresses are important and we recommend ones that have a high level of firmness. There are studies to suggest that firm mattresses are the way to go to maximize safety of children below 12 months.

While in the crib configuration – your baby will be protected on all sides by either walls or slats. Restricting the child to the crib in this way should ensure that you can walk away to do the other things a parent needs to do (like child-proofing your windows).

You’ll want to ensure that there are no other objects on the mattress like pillows, stuffed animals, or toys. While it will look cute and make for great instagram photos – it can be dangerous to your baby! See this article on SIDS for more.

Toddler Bed

In this mode, one side of the crib drops out entirely and you place a toddler rail (which is actually included!) This means that your toddler is able to use it for naps. The side rail will ensure that the toddler stays in bed by providing a barrier from falling.

A common question we get is how soon should a toddler transition to a toddler bed? Unfortunately, the answer is: it depends. Some toddlers can make the transition as soon as 18 months, while others will take up to 3.5 years. There are a lot of factors to determine if your toddler is ready to transitions – but some signs we find that might guide you in the right direction are:

  • They’re able to sleep through the night
  • They can go to sleep by themselves with no assistance
  • They are showing signs that they need more space to themselves as they sleep.
  • They are able to wake up and safely transition into a morning routine without assistance.

If they’re exhibiting some of these signs – you may wish to consider moving this crib into the toddler bed configuration.

Day Bed

A day bed is primarily for when a toddler or child needs to take a nap. This configuration is basically the same as the toddler mode only you do not install the toddler rail.

They can also be used as a sitting area for reading or playing with a mobile device / tablet. In general – we found that daybed great for playtime – our child loves to use it as a stage for when she wants to put on pretend plays!

Final Thoughts

This is a great crib – it really ticks off most of the boxes terms of features. The real reason to pick this crib up is if you dig the clear acrylic slat design – which is probably the main unique feature.
